Death is an admonition

A glance at a grave
Lifted up the deceitful veil
And made me realise
The vast emptiness in earthly strife
And the brevity of our sojourn in life

A glance at the grave
Causes me to ask myself a question
Amongst questions we so much love to ignore
What if i die today
What awaits me in my grave

The heat of the sun
Brew sweat around my brows
Which trickle and meander
To each unanswered question
I shiver and shudder

Out of fear
My heart threatens to sublime
As I count wasted years
Before me lay those already out of time
And I slowly approach mine
